Should My Elders Pray Over Me If I Am Sick?

Should My Elders Pray Over Me If I Am Sick? We answered that question on this episode of Real Truth. Real Quick.

Show Notes:

Principles:

  1. James 5:13-15 is saying that you want godly people to pray for you when you are sick.
  2. In Scripture, oil is representative of the Holy Spirit.
  3. All sickness is because of the fall, but not all sickness is because of some specific sin.
  4. In verse 15 the word “sick” means weary, fatigued, afflicted, faint of heart.
  5. It is heresy to say the Lord heals every physical sickness on earth if you “pray the prayer of faith.”
  6. Often God uses the prayers of the saints to heal our attitude of despair instead of our physical healing.
  7. When you are sick you are not commanded to call for those with the gift of healing but for those who are spiritually mature so they can strengthen your heart even though you are sick.
  8. When you are suffering or sick from soul fatigue or physical sickness, surround yourself with godly people.
  9. The focus of James 5:13-15 is prayer and the encouragement of the saints.

Scripture:
“Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises. Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.” James 5:13-15
